Platia Ammos
Platia Ammos is a tiny little fishing haven on the Aegean coast of the island. Peace and quiet are qualities which abound in this small village – as the population of approximately 40 people will tell you.
A glorious beach stretches from one side of the cove to the other, and around this the village is based. There are 4 restaurants in the village, one of which, an extremely popular fish taverna, offers stunning sea views and regularly throughout the season features live bouzouki music from the owner and the local doctor.
A small coffee bar completes the compliment of establishments in the village and also doubles as a tiny mini market where essentials can be purchased; for anything more than that a visit to the mini market in Agia Pelagia or the super market in nearby Potamos will be necessary.
Due to its location at the end of a gorge, Platia Ammos is very popular with those interested in walking and exploring. A route up through the gorge will take you to the springs of Amir Ali (supposedly named after a Turkish tax collector!) and the forgotten village of the same name, practically deserted since the 1950s.
