Agia Pelagia

Agia Pelagia can be found on the north-eastern coast of the island overlooking the nearby Peloponnese. Although not as photogenic as Avlemonas, the village has a very friendly atmosphere and is popular with couples and families alike.

Numerous restaurants and a couple of cafes line the seafront; there is also a mini market selling fresh bread every day of the week except Sunday and a few shops selling souvenirs and local products.

Due to its proximity to Potamos and some of the more interesting sights that Kythira has to offer Agia Pelagia is ideal as a base from which to explore whether on foot or by car. Alternatively, the ferry boat from Neapolis (on the Peloponnese) docks regularly at the small harbour.

Two beaches stretch the length of the village. One is sandy and quite gently shelving whilst the other features pebbles and is a bit steeper.

Several further beaches together with an awe-inspiring gorge from where the pirates attacked the Byzantine capital are within walking distance.
