Seaside Villages of Kythira
More experienced visitors to Greece will already know that the beauty of the country is its diversity.
So much more than just beaches and sun-bathing, Greece is a country of contrasts where dramatic mountains soar above spectacular coastlines and stunning gorges emerge onto hidden beaches with crystal clear waters.
The secret has always been to find that special place where you can discover all this and still enjoy the simple pleasures that Greece has to offer; traditional seaside villages, delicious food and a zest for life no longer common in many more commercial destinations.
More experienced visitors will also know that the way to find these all too rare hidden treasures is to look at where the Greeks themselves go…
The seaside villages we have chosen reflect the diversity of the island in general. Each of them display unique characteristics meaning that no two destinations are the same.
Avlemonas
Palm trees, bougainvillea and whitewashed houses with blue shutters set around a perfectly formed natural bay make this the most romantic village on the island. The ideal setting for those seeking a relaxing yet authentic Greek holiday beside the sea.
Agia Pelagia
Agia Pelagia can be found on the north-eastern coast of Kythira just 10 minutes drive from Potamos, the largest village on the island. The location makes it the ideal choice as a base from which to explore the many wonderful sights that Kythira has to offer.
Platia Ammos
The most traditional of the sea-side villages, Platia Ammos is nestled in a glorious bay to the north of the island. Soak up typical village life whilst still being on the beach and within walking distance of a couple of the island’s favourite fish tavernas.
Kapsali
Considered by many to be the most cosmopolitan village on Kythira, Kapsali is where the Greeks like to stay when they visit in July and August. Stylish bars, traditional restaurants and chic French cafes are all under the watchful gaze of the dramatic Venetian fortress high above.
